Black Duck Named to SD Times 100

Market Leader in Software Component Selection and Lifecycle Management

Waltham, MA – June 9, 2008

Black Duck Software, the leading global provider of products and services for accelerating software development through the managed use of open source and third-party code, today announced that it had been named to the 2008 SD Times 100. The list recognizes the leaders, innovators and influencers in software development. Black Duck was honored in the Tools category, which acknowledges companies that help developers “churn out functional and usable code.”

“Black Duck’s software helps teams of developers, working together with engineering and legal groups, work together to find, select and use open source components,” said Douglas Levin, president and CEO of Black Duck Software. “Use of open source has become the norm within big software companies, and our products help make developers much more efficient and select the code that best meets their needs, as well as company guidelines. We’re honored to be included on this prestigious list and to be recognized as a company meeting coders’ expanding, evolving needs.”

"The software development industry is led by innovation," said Alan Zeichick, Editorial Director of BZ Media's SD Times. "When choosing the 2008 SD Times 100, we carefully considered each organization's products and services, reputation with development managers, and the new ideas and thought leadership that it has brought to the industry. Thanks to the SD Times 100 winners, like Black Duck, the art and science of software development continues to advance at a rapid pace."

SD Times is written for software development managers. The publication launched in 2000 and has more than 60,000 subscribers in more than 131 countries.

The SD Times 100 considers innovators and leaders in multiple industry categories. When reviewing the nominees, editors considered each company’s offering and reputation and looked for companies that have determined a direction that developers followed. The sixth annual awards are featured in the June 1, 2008, issue and are available online at http://www.sdtimes.com.
