Press for Black Duck Software

Black Duck Software said it has acquired the assets of SpikeSource, once a high-flyer in the VC-financed open source boom of the last decade.

Black Duck Software, the leading global provider of products and services for accelerating application development through the managed use of open source software, today announced it has acquired the assets of privately-held SpikeSource, a provider of software tools and services to automate application component identification and assess security vulnerability. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sara Ford, former community manager for Microsoft’s Codeplex site, has been hired by Black Duck to do the same job for its Ohloh, which it bought last month from Geeknet.

Black Duck Software marked another quarter of exceptional growth, the company announced today, led by new client sales, rapid growth in the Asia-Pacific region and continued strength in M&A services. Third-quarter sales grew 58 percent compared to the same period in 2009. As enterprise IT developers expanded their use of open source software in multi-source development, Black Duck products and services have been critical to support the management and control of open source code at enterprise scale.
