Press for Boxee
Windows/Mac/Linux: An update out for the Boxee media center adds live hockey for NHL GameCenter subscribers, sure. What media fiends will really enjoy, though, is the ability to see the progress of Boxee's media scanning, and add names manually when necessary.
Boxee is releasing a new version of its software to users today that adds some performance and usability enhancements, plus a new content partner, the NHL. The NHL joins the Internet media center’s sports offerings, including the recently updated MLB.TV app.
Watching live sports on television via the Web may have just gotten easier. Starting Monday, Web-to-TV software company Boxee will distribute the National Hockey League’s Game Center Live online video content. In addition, the National Basketball Association is set to announce a similar partnership with Roku, maker of a digital video player that streams Netflix and Amazon Video on Demand via the Web, for the distribution of NBA digital video content, beginning with some of this season’s playoff games.
Boxee is looking for a developer to build an app to stream video to Apple's iPhone and iPad. Boxee also hopes to get on Google's Android-based devices. Boxee's Avner Ronen said the iPad's debut changed his focus to mobile devices. To avoid the Flash battle raging between Apple and Adobe Systems, Boxee might use transcode to convert videos.
