Demandware, a dealer in on-demand ecommerce, has released the seasonal release of its Demandware eCommerce on-demand platform – Summer ’10. The company claims the upgrade offers new efficient optimization abilities that will help maximize conversion and average order size across Web, mobile and call center channels.

Department stores led year-over-year growth in first quarter e-commerce sales, with a rise of 76.1%, e-commerce technology provider Demandware Inc. says in a performance index based on its U.S. and European clients.  The index, which is based on retail e-commerce sales at 126 web sites that operate on Demandware’s software-as-a-service e-commerce platform, also notes that Q1 year-over-year growth at European sites far outpaced their U.S. counterparts, 66.9% to 18.3%.

Irving, TX-based Michaels Stores has hired Demandware to relaunch its website and e-commerce capabilities. The service provider will add enhanced customer ratings, product reviews, a hosted social community and user-generated content to the company's site.

Luxury goods company Gucci Group has picked Demandware to manage its e-commerce initiatives, the companies announced April 20. Gucci Group will use Demandware's platform to build e-commerce sites for its Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Bottega Vaneta, Sergio Rossi, Stella McCartney and Yves Saint Laurent brands in the US and Europe.
