Readers of PC-Gamer magazine have voted the Icelandic online computer game EVE Online as the third best computer game ever. Readers of the magazine voted for their favourite games, placing EVE Online among some well-known names, including World of Warcraft, Quake and Doom.
Department stores led year-over-year growth in first quarter e-commerce sales, with a rise of 76.1%, e-commerce technology provider Demandware Inc. says in a performance index based on its U.S. and European clients. The index, which is based on retail e-commerce sales at 126 web sites that operate on Demandware’s software-as-a-service e-commerce platform, also notes that Q1 year-over-year growth at European sites far outpaced their U.S. counterparts, 66.9% to 18.3%.
Flash doesn’t work on the iPad, pretty much making online videoadvertising a non-issue. But leading video technology provider Brightcove says it has a solution.
The company has announced that it will soon begin assisting itspartners in delivering video content and advertising using HTML5,the Web site technology format which, as an alternative to Flashtechnology, enables video to be viewed on iPhones, iTouches andiPads. That’s potentially big news for brands that advertising onthe Web via video—particularly given that Apple has already sold amillion iPads—mostly to a highly desirable, early adopter consumerbase.
Investors have put $12 million into Sand 9 Inc., a startup making nanoscale mechanical frequency control technology for the wireless market. The Series B round was led by new investor Commonwealth Capital Ventures, with participation from previous backers Flybridge Capital Partners, General Catalyst Partners and Khosla Ventures.
