I am the Donald K. David Professor of Business at Harvard Business School. My research focuses on the intersection of strategy, branding innovation, and culture, with a particular emphasis on youth and the digital economy. I'm the author of the bestselling book Different,, and I've published and sold over two million case studies on companies ranging from Starbucks to IKEA to Uber. Currently, I co-host a weekly podcast, After Hours, presented by TED.
I serve on the Board of Directors for Mastercard, Unilever, Warby Parker and Sweetgreen; I also work with a number of private companies, including Whoop, Blank Street, Multiverse, and Bloom & Wild. At HBS, I’ve held roles as Senior Associate Dean for Strategy and Innovation, as well as Senior Associate Dean for the MBA Program. I’ve been honored multiple times with the HBS Student Association Faculty Award for teaching excellence, and I am the inaugural recipient of the Hellman Faculty Fellowship, which recognizes distinction in research.
I received my Ph.D. and M.A. from Stanford University, and my B.A. from Yale University. Before joining HBS, I was a faculty member at MIT.
